Michele Madigan Somerville is the mother of three, a poet and author of three books and has a former classroom teacher. For more than a decade she has taught writing at CUNY (Brooklyn and Baruch Colleges), SUNY (Purchase) and St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, NY. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts from CUNY Brooklyn College where she completed a thesis while working with poet Allen Ginsberg and won three department awards. Somerville is currently a candidate for a Master of Theology Studies at Harvard Divinity School where she has been studying the Bible, theology and American politics with a focus on educational justice. Her third book of verse. Glamourous Life, is forthcoming this fall from Rain Mountain this fall. Somerville also writes fiction and essays. She is currently completing an education memoir, tentatively named, Bored O Ed. Some content from this work—and reflections, analysis and commentary on education—appears on her online education platform, Bored_o_Ed. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals and her essays have appeared in The New York Times, Religion Dispatches and Harvard Divinity Bulletin. As well she has published book reviews in many places, including Variety and the Poetry Project Newsletter.
